Weird National Holidays Always Give You Reason To Celebrate

By Angel Dudley

A holiday is something that almost everybody loves. Official ones like Christmas or the 4th of July mean that you can have the day off. In the United States, just about every day is an unofficial holiday too, each one celebrating something different. While there are days that are dedicated to serious causes, there are also some days that are rather strange. With weird national holidays you can celebrate every day with your tongue placed very firmly in your cheek.

If you want to do your bit for a better world, a national or international holiday is the perfect excuse. International Nelson Mandela Day in July is an easy one since it only requires 67 minutes of your time. National Hugging Day is another holiday where a small act can make a huge difference to someone. If there is a specific cause that's close to your heart, you'll probably find a holiday dedicated to it, even if it's Married To A Scorpio Support Day.

If you want to show your appreciation for a specific group, you'll find a day to do that on. For example, you may want to choose Weatherman's Day to tell your favorite weatherman just how much you appreciate him being wrong most of the time. There's a day for naming your PC, one for thanking the tooth fairy and even one for appreciating a dragon.

Many national holidays have an educational slant. World Book Day, Stop Bullying Day and Kid Inventors' Day are just some that may encourage children to learn. You're never too old to learn something new yourself and Learn Your Name in Morse Code Day may be a great time to start. Also remember that April 23, the day on which The Bard was born as well as the day on which he died, is Talk Like Shakespeare Day.

If you love eating, you can use a holiday calendar to plan the year's menu. There's a day for beans, for pie, for peanut brittle, for pancakes, for red apples and for pretty much anything else that you can eat. National Buffet Day is for when you can't decide what you'd like to nibble on and on December 16 you have the opportunity to make anything taste better by covering it in chocolate.

Music is another cause for celebration. From musical instruments like the saxophone and the violin to gadgets like the CD player have their special appreciation days. You can even sing along to your favorite earworms on National One-hit Wonder Day.

In case you never knew this, the sport of curling is considered cool and there is a day to remind you of the fact. You'll also find special days for playing games, whether you like trivia or cards. If solving puzzles are your thing, you'll be happy to know that there's a day for that activity too.

Talk Like A Pirate Day could get you some strange looks from those around you, especially if you work in the service industry. You may also turn heads on International Moment of Frustration Scream Day but you'll feel much better after letting it all out. To bring some fun into your life, get yourself a calendar of weird national holidays online and then remember to mark International Day of Awesomeness, which is celebrated on March 10.
